BAINBRIDGE – Have a senior heading to college? Southwest Georgia Farm Credit officials say they are proud to offer scholarships that help students in the area peruse their dreams.

High school seniors are encouraged to note the deadline for SWGA Farm Credit’s scholarship program, which provides $4,000 in scholarship money to selected students in the 21 counties served by the association. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Feb. 28 to assure eligibility.

Students may be pursuing a career path in an agriculture-related field, or plan to enhance the quality of life in our rural communities with a degree in accounting, animal biology, chemistry, communications, finance, health sciences, etc. Four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who show a record of scholastic achievement and who, through their extracurricular activities, exemplify community spirit. High school seniors pursuing either two- or four-year degrees may apply.

Applicants must complete the scholarship application and provide a high school transcript showing grades, GPA and class rank. One essay will be required on the topic “My Hopes and Dreams for Rural America.” In addition, applicants will be required to provide two letters of recommendation from someone other than an immediate member of their family. Scholarship winners will be chosen based on overall achievement and accomplishments.

Students can visit the Learn Tab at SWGAFarmCredit.com for an application and additional information, or contact their high school’s guidance office.
