ALBANY — A disaster assistance team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is available in Albany to assist individuals already registered with the agency until Wednesday.

Assistance with late registration is also being provided to individuals under qualifying circumstances.

Agents with FEMA will be at the Albany Government Center to help with questions or concerns involving applications and to also help applicants through the process of writing an appeal letter if the individual was denied FEMA assistance following Hurricane Michael.

The disaster assistance specialists will be located at the center, at 222 Pine Ave., from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Monday and Wednesday.

Tiana Suber, media specialist with FEMA, said circumstances for a late application for FEMA assistance includes scenarios such as military deployment or if an applicant was too sick throughout the application period to apply. The registration site is targeted towards anyone registered with FEMA who needs additional help or were confused by the letter the individual received in the mail.

Officials said FEMA may accept late registrations for an additional 60 days, but disaster survivors will be required to write a letter to FEMA with details of the circumstances that prevented them from applying before the initial deadline for FEMA to process late registrations.
