ALBANY — Flint River Habitat for Humanity will celebrate this week the grand opening and ribbon-cutting for its new Habitat ReStore in participation with the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the 1908 N. Slappey Blvd. location, which has been occupied by ReStore since July when it moved from its previous location at 717 Pine Ave.

Officials said Flint River Habitat and ReStore staff have worked to prepare the new store location for the unveiling to the public.

Flint River Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1986. It is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that has built more than 160 houses in Dougherty and Lee counties. The organization’s mission is to “build homes for low-income families, thus eliminating poverty housing in Dougherty and Lee counties and making simple, quality, affordable housing a matter of conscience.”

The Albany ReStore takes in a variety of items for the home, including furniture, repair equipment, recreational items, exercise equipment, toys, appliances, kitchen items, pianos, light fixtures, patio items, fabrics, grills, toys and books that are donated by the public and sells the items at low cost.

Officials said all of the proceeds from ReStore sales go toward providing jobs, housing opportunities and housing repairs for low-income families and veterans.

Donations may be dropped off at ReStore, or individuals can call (229) 446-8199 to schedule a free donation pick-up. The store is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Donations are tax-deductible. To learn more, volunteer or donate, visit www.flintriverhabitat.org. Flint River Habitat for Humanity ReStore also has a Facebook page that includes announcements about sales, calls for donations, and pictures and prices of its inventory.
