Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice to host career fair in Albany
Georgia DJJ career fair in Albany, for military only, one of several throughout the state
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is offering employment opportunities at DJJ’s facilities around the state through a monthlong candidate search in 10 communities — including Albany — to fill professional positions for teachers, registered nurses and juvenile corrections officers.
The Albany fair, for military only, is set for 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 14 at the conference center at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, Building 7120. Agency recruiters will also set up their career fair tables in Augusta, College Park, Decatur, Savannah, Forest Park, Morrow, Waycross, Augusta, Tucker and Macon in search of applicants for upcoming JCO training classes and other positions.
“The department is looking for highly qualified teachers and RNs, as well as JCO candidates, to fill our fall training classes,” said DJJ Commissioner Avery D. Niles. “We want applicants who can commit to helping young offenders overcome their troubled life transitions while in our custody. We’re hiring job seekers with personal drive to become part of our dedicated team.
“DJJ is always looking for mature, responsible adults and applicants with prior experience in corrections, the military or law enforcement. We want candidates who are looking for the place to make their work count.”
The first fair takes place today at the Augusta Department of Labor. The one closest to Albany, aside from the event at MCLB-Albany, will be the last fair in the series that is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 29 at the Mercer Fall Career Fair in Macon.
Aside from the Morrow and Albany events, the other fairs are open to the general public.
Applicants for JCO positions should bring copies of the following documents to the interview process:
— Compass Scores (Reading: 70, Writing: 32), Accuplacer (Reading: 55, Writing: 60, Numerical: 34)
— SAT Scores (Verbal: 430, Math: 400) or ACT Scores (Verbal: 18, Math: 16)
— Valid driver’s license and birth certificate
— High school diploma or GED
— DD214 long form with discharge indicated
— Naturalization forms if not a U.S. citizen
— If Peace Officer Standards and Training Council-certified, two forms of government-issued ID and a P.O.S.T. profile
Applicants with a four-year degree from an accredited college are exempt from taking the Compass test or providing proof of acceptable ACT or SAT scores. Representatives will be active at the career fairs, and there is no charge to candidates.
Career fair locations and times may change, or additional career fair dates may be added to the DJJ recruiting schedule. Applicants should check the DJJ website for late-breaking schedule changes at djjcareers.org before visiting a job fair.
