COLQUITT — The Georgia Board of Public Safety will conduct its October meeting Thursday in Colquitt, home of Georgia’s official folk life play, Swamp Gravy.

“It is an honor to have this board to meet in Colquitt and to have representatives from all over the state come here, especially when they are making decisions that affect the safety of all of us,” Colquitt-Miller County Chamber of Commerce President KaCee Holt said.

The board, which meets monthly in various places in the state, oversees Georgia’s Department of Public Safety, which was created in 1937 to handle the day-to-day operations of the Georgia State Patrol, Capitol Police and the Motor Carrier Compliance Division.

Officials say board members will arrive in Colquitt on Wednesday and attend a special production of Swamp Gravy. The formal board meeting will be Thursday at the Miller County High School gymnasium.
