The state’s largest advocate of county officials is applauding a bill filed ahead of the 2012 General Assembly session that would give county governments the option of becoming non-partisan.
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia issued a statement Wednesday saying that the bill, which has been pre-filed by State Representative Allen Peake, R-Macon, would give the taxpayers the ability to choose the person and not necessarily the party to sit in a local government seat.
“The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) supports giving counties and local taxpayers the option to hold nonpartisan local elections if that is the desire of their community,” a press release states.
