ALBANY — Home invasion and aggravated assault incidents involving firearms were reported to the Albany Police Department on Sunday.
Officers responded at 11:24 a.m. on Sunday to the 500 block of Cotton Avenue in regards to a home invasion report. A police report on the incident said the victim was taking a break from working on his home when he heard a loud boom at the front door.
“He advised that when he turned around he saw a dark-skinned black male, wearing all black with a full bread and a green and white hat with a gun pointed at his head,” a police report narrative written by reporting officer Silas Moseley said. “(The victim) stated that the suspect said ‘Give it up’ before pulling the trigger four times.”
The gun failed to go off, and when that happened, the victim said he began to fight the suspect. The suspect dropped the gun and ran out the front door, while the victim ran out the back door declaring that the man had just tried to kill him.
The victim’s nephew heard the cry, and the nephew caught up to the suspect and began hitting him with a stick.
“He stated that the suspect, however, was able to get away after biting his nephew on the lip and his cheek but not before losing the hat he was wearing as well,” the police report narrative said. “(The victim) advised he got in the car with his sister and they drove around looking for the suspect. He stated that he spotted the suspect at Brother’s Convenience Store on Newton Road and confronted him.
“In doing so, (the victim) advised that he made sure the suspect was in the camera’s view to where he could possibly be ID’d by police.”
The victim told police he believed the suspect had to have been watching him for some time to know how to invade his property. The nephew was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment, while the gun was scanned for a possible wanted status with negative results.
The report said contact was made with the convenience store to gain video footage of the incident. The incident was forwarded to investigators.
The aggravated assault was reported to have taken place on the 1600 block of Malone Drive at 12:32 p.m. In that incident, a women told police she was riding with her friend when a white Chevrolet Impala pulled up behind them.
“She stated a short, dark-skinned black male got out of the passenger’s seat of the car and pointed a gun at them and shot two times, striking the car once on the front passenger’s door,” a police report narrative written by reporting officer William Tuten III said. “She stated the suspects then left headed east.”
The friend confirmed the account, noting the suspects were at Family Dollar on North Maple Street prior to following them and that the driver was a tall, light-skinned man with gold-colored glasses and clear lenses.
“She stated she never saw these suspects before,” the report said. “She stated there was no one mad at her. She stated she was the only one who drove her vehicle, so it could not (have) been a mistaken identity.”
Tuten wrote in the report that a small hole was in the lower portion of the front passenger’s door on the car the women were in. The officer said he observed security footage from Family Dollar and did not see the victims or suspects enter the store or parking lot.
