LEESBURG — A Gwinnett County roofer has been arrested in Lee County on multiple felony counts of insurance fraud, according to officials with the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation Enrforcement Division.

An investigation conducted by the state agency led to criminal arrest warrants being issued against Pedro Henriquez in the Magistrate Court of both Cobb and Gwinnett counties. Henriquez, 37, has been charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud, one felony count of conspiracy to commit a crime, one count of failing to provide workers’ compensation insurance for his employees.

Arrest warrants have also been issued in Gwinnett County for Henriquez’s wife, Marilith Garcia-Sandoval. Sandoval, 35, has been charged with one felony count of insurance fraud and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a crime in conjunction with the case.

Although Henriquez lives in Gwinnett County, he and his crew travel to the Albany and Leesburg, Georgia area each week to perform roof work, state officials said.

The Enforcement Division’s investigation alleges that Henriquez and Garcia-Sandoval conspired to give false and misleading information to an insurance agent in 2014 for the purpose of purchasing workers’ compensation insurance coverage. At the time of obtaining the insurance coverage, Sandoval claimed to be the owner of a roofing company with no employees. The investigation determined that Henriquez actually owns the business.

Last week, the Enforcement Division, with the assistance of Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, arrested Henriquez in Lee County without incident. He was subsequently transferred to the Gwinnett County Jail where he remains without bond.
