CAMILLA — For the 10th year, bargain-hunters will be able to take a long ride Saturday along Georgia Highway 37 in search of roadside treasures.

This year’s 10th annual Southwest Georgia High Cotton 65-Mile Yard Sale falls on Veterans Day.

Named for the Georgia row crop that is usually being harvested in early November, organizers say the day-long event is always conducted on the second Saturday of November.

Jennifer Burnum of Camilla, one of the organizers, said the event is a collaborative marketing effort that began in 2008 and includes residents of Calhoun, Clay, Baker and Mitchell counties. The sale routes runs along Highway 37 from Fort Gaines near the Alabama line to Camilla.

“This is a great opportunity for churches, youth groups, civic groups, families, etc. to have their own yard sale,” Burnum said. “Along with the typical yard sale items, there will vendors for food, beverages, crafts and more.”

She said vendors who are not setting up on their on property along the route need to keep a couple of things in mind. First, a vendor must get permission to set up directly from the owner of the property where he or she wants to locate. Second, a booth should be set up only in a location that provides adequate road-shoulder room or a driveway for shoppers and browsers to park off the highway.
