High court upholds Dougherty man’s murder conviction
ATLANTA — The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Dougherty County man convicted of a 2007 murder.
Kasaem Toomer was convicted by a jury of the 2007 murder of Lee County teen Justin Cox and was appealing that conviction based on a number of points including the charge that the prosecutor in the case unfairly dismissed prospective jurors based solely on race.
Cox’ body was found in the Flint River near Turner Job Corps in October 2007. Toomer admitted that he had punched Cox, but didn’t believe that he had killed him.
