ALBANY — A car traveling on Pine Avenue Tuesday suddenly veered out of control, went off the roadway and struck two buildings, according to officials with the Albany Police Department. An in-car domestic dispute is apparently to blame for the crash.

“Vehicle No. 1 (a black 2016 GMC Sierra K2500) was traveling west on Pine Avenue,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said in an email about the incident. “The passenger grabbed the steering wheel, causing vehicle No. 1 to travel north off the road. Vehicle No. 1 struck a sign (Open Arms), a building (also Open Arms) and then struck a second building (B&B Rental).”

According to an APD report, the incident took place along the 600 block of Pine Ave around 10:53 a.m. and involved the vehicle’s driver, Don Barnes, 48, of Albany, and his passenger, Tamarriany Soles, 35, of Albany.

“The passenger was charged with interfering with driver controls,” Banks said. “It appears that the driver and passenger were involved in a verbal dispute during the time of the crash.”
