LEESBURG — The Lee County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its Leadership Lee Class of 2016.

Applicants will be given opportunities to get an up-close view of the county’s economic strengths, its infrastructure, and the challenges and issues that community leaders face.

“We’re looking for people who want to be involved in their community, who want to know more about the way their county operates,” Lee Chamber Director of Operations Lesley Barbosa said. “We usually have a class of around 20 to 25, with participation from teachers, school officials, retirees, business owners.

“Being involved in Leadership Lee provides great networking opportunities and helps our community’s leaders get a better understanding of what we have to offer here in our county.”

Cost for participation is $275 per person, and half-day classes are tentatively scheduled for Feb. 18 and 25, and March 3, 17 and 24. All classes are held on Thursdays.

“There were a few Leadership Lee classes back in the ’80s, and the chamber restarted the program in 2004,” Barbosa said. “Our graduates have generally become more actively involved in the community.”

For information or to enroll in the Leadership Lee program, contact Barbosa at (229) 759-2422 or online at [email protected] before Feb. 12. Checks may be mailed to the Lee County Chamber at 100-B Starkesville Ave. N, Leesburg 31763.
