LEESBURG — The death of a 29-year-old woman in Leesburg is under investigation, officials with the Leesburg Police Department said.

Leesburg police Maj. David Bullington said there is an investigation ongoing after Laura Brook Scott was found dead in a duplex at 100 Starksville Ave. at 1:12 p.m. on Wednesday.

“It looks suspicious,” he said. “That is why we are treating it as a crime until we find out different.”

Bullington said the death was called in by Scott’s boyfriend. The boyfriend was on the scene, and was taken into custody in connection to unrelated charges in Dougherty County, he said.

He said an investigator has gone with Scott’s body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Macon for toxicology screening to determine the cause of death.

“We are not expecting anything,” Bullington said. “We treat it as a crime until we find out different. It could be natural, it could be anything.”

The GBI office in Americus is assisting with the investigation.
