Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany and tenant commands conducting job fair
Jobseekers from the general public invited to come to Albany State University West on Wednesday

ALBANY — Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany and its tenant commands are opening their doors to the public to those looking for work.
MCLB-Albany, Marine Corps Logistics Command headquarters and Marine Depot Maintenance Command, Production Plant Albany, along with other Department of Defense entities, have been granted temporary direct hire authorities established under The National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2017.
These initiatives allow commands to appoint qualified candidates directly to positions without going through the traditional examining process. In an effort to exercise these authorities, the commands are hosting a free career fair for jobseekers that is open to the public 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday.
“We have been given some direct temporary hiring authority,” Angie Haire, director of the manpower office at LOGCOM, said. “(This allows us to hire) any qualified candidate in an expeditious manner.”
The fair will be at Albany State University West Campus, Building C, Room 266. Rather than take part in interviews on site, jobseekers will register and drop their resume off for review. It will follow a similar event being held for current employees on Tuesday.
“It is so important to cultivate an innovative and motivated workforce to further our commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps,” Dave Clifton, executive deputy for LOGCOM, said in a news release.
Multiple federal civil service employment opportunities exist covering a wide range of fields such as financial management, logistics, information technology, engineering and mechanics. Interested individuals should bring a copy of their resume for each position they wish to be considered for.
Position levels will include internship, developmental and full performance level.
“We have critical hiring needs for more than 40 types of positions between our Logistics Command Headquarters, Production Plant Albany and MCLB-Albany,” Clifton said. “Hosting this job fair enables us to fill them with qualified candidates from the community.”
Submitted resumes will be used to evaluate applicant qualifications in accordance with Office of Personnel Management qualification standards. There are a few things applicants are expected to keep in mind, including:
— U.S. citizenship is required;
— Males 18 to 25 must be registered with Selective Service to apply for federal positions;
— Some positions may be deemed drug testing designated positions and require participation in random screening;
— Appointment will be contingent upon passing a physical examination;
— Employee will be required to obtain and maintain appropriate background investigation or security clearance;
— Employee may be required to drive a motor vehicle. A valid driver’s license may be required for the position;
— Employee must maintain current certifications depending on occupation and work area.
Personally identifiable information such as Social Security number, date of birth, age and race must not appear on resumes, but Haire said it will be helpful for applicants to list the job they are applying for on their resume.
“We hope to find qualified candidates and all indications (based on advertising) are that there is a lot of positive feedback and views on social media,” she said. “We expect a big turnout.”
Attendees have been encouraged to not bring weapons with them onsite.
Human Resource Office professionals and subject matter experts will be on hand to answer questions and discuss specific position requirements. To view a list of open positions, visit www.logcom.marines.mil/ and click on the “Career Fair” box on the right-hand side of the screen.
