MCLB-ALBANY — Officials at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany are inviting the Southwest Georgia public to celebrate the nation’s 240th birthday at the base.

MCLB-Albany officials announced announced that the installation’s annual Independence Day celebration is set for July 1.

The event, taking place from 4 p.m.-10 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Officials said visitors to the installation should not bring weapons of any kind, alcohol, coolers, non-service pets or dress inappropriately — but that lawn chairs and blankets are welcome.

Due to security concerns, base officials say visitors will be subject to search. All guests are encouraged to arrive early for proper processing to gain base access, and free limited parking will be available outside the main gate on Fleming Road.

Handicapped parking will be available in the base’s Human Resources parking lot adjacent to the main gate. Shuttle service will also be available for anyone with special needs, MCLB officials said.

Food and beverage vendors are expected to be on hand, and there will be music, military working dog demonstrations and other entertainment for both children and adults. The evening will conclude with a fireworks display.

The event is typically held the Friday before the holiday. In prior years, it has drawn thousands from the Southwest Georgia area.
