Mediacom files civil suit against L2Networks

Albany, Ga. – Mediacom of Georgia has filed a civil suit against L2Networks and its CEO, Kraig Beahn, contending that Beahn and the company improperly used Mediacom’s equipment to service L2 customers.

The suit, filed Monday in Dougherty County Superior Court, contends that Beahn and L2 improperly used Mediacom equipment by tapping into the company’s line on McCollum Drive. Mediacoms provide cable television, Internet and telephone service.

Mediacom is seeking compensatory damages, contending loss of service and interruption of service, and punitive damages.

Beahn also faces a felony charge of theft of services from January following an investigation by the Dougherty County Police Department.

County police brought the case after Mediacom complained in mid-December that someone had tampered with a cable box on a pole on the 600 block of McCollum Drive. Police say that L2 tapped into the Mediacom outlet on that block, wired it to a modem and a device to convert the signal to fiber optic line, then used that line to provide service to an L2 customer.

Last month, L2 filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission against Albany’s Water, Gas & Light Commission, contending that WG&L is refusing to allow L2 to access to its broadband network without a fee.
