ALBANY — A Wednesday afternoon shooting in which one man was killed and a second man injured stemmed from an altercation between the two, Albany Police Department officials said.
The deceased man has been identified as Herbert Garner Mitchell. Bryan Collier, who also was shot, was in critical condition, according to detectives.
The Albany Police Department was called to the scene of a shooting at 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday that had taken place at Nottingham North Apartments at 2401 Nottingham Way. When officers arrived, they discovered a 56-year-old man was deceased and a 35-year-old man had several gunshot wounds in the area of the complex neighboring Westwind Apartments, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD.
Witnesses stated the two men got into an argument and started shooting at each other at close proximity, Banks said.
Collier was transported by paramedics to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries. A spokeswoman at Phoebe was able to confirm Thursday that he was in critical condition.
The incident remained under investigation Thursday. It was not immediately clear whether charges were expected in connection to the incident.
