AMERICUS – The One Sumter Board of Directors is seeking a new executive director to guide the organization into its second decade.

With the recent conclusion of its third capital campaign, GROW 2029, One Sumter is looking for executive leadership to enhance the organization’s efforts to bring about growth and continued economic opportunity throughout Sumter County. With a renewed emphasis on collaborative leadership and communications, the board of directors is targeting a planned third generation of effort to move its efforts into a mature phase of diversified investment, innovative funding streams, and donor relations so that monies collected can make a greater impact over the next five years.

The One Sumter Economic Development Foundation launched in 2014 as an ambitious capital campaign to support the work of the community’s existing economic development efforts. Over the last decade, One Sumter has served as the catalyst for key projects such as the deployment of more than $35 million in broadband infrastructure, the launch of the Ignite College & Career Academy, support for downtown redevelopment projects, the vision and development of the Rev. Pearly Brown Music Park & Amphitheater project, the debut of the Reformation Project documentary, and the ongoing efforts of the Gun Violence Summit and Youth Peace in Action, among other initiatives throughout the county.

Having leveraged $4 million in capital investments from business, industry and public sector partners since 2014, One Sumter has secured more than $40 million in federal and state funds alone, with additional private investments representing more than $8 million for catalytic projects communitywide.

The foundation’s board of directors is seeking an experienced executive director to lead the strategic direction and vision for One Sumter, its donors and community partners. The ideal candidate must be flexible and have the ability to accommodate multiple tasks. Excellent writing and communications skills are essential. The candidate will be required to work some evenings and weekends.
