Albany Fire Chief Cedric Scott wants to spread the message that it's never too late. Scott, 60,, recently received a nursing degree from Albany State University and encouraged others to try something new, even later in life.
“It’s just a (big) space that was going to take a considerable investment. It’s a great building that really doesn’t meet our needs anymore."
“Everybody came out to look. It gave a lot of excitement in the subdivision here. He started out in the front yard and he ended up in the back.”
The Albany City Commission compromised between six months and 18 months to set a moratorium of 12 months on permitting data centers in the city. The resolution approved in a unanimous vote allows for a six-month extension.
“I think it was a great win for the community as a whole. It’s been a long time to get an actual location and funding.”
“In terms of the continued maintenance, that’s something the county should consider as well. It is certainly something the county can get involved in, but I think we should proceed with caution.”
"Renovations that have been done piecemeal have been done well. There have been some good surprises as we walked through the building and looked at it.”
“Everybody loves water. I think it will be an excellent tool, especially recreation for the children. Keeping kids at the park during the summer will help keep them out of trouble."
Part Two: Twenty years after county planners warned that homeowners were carrying too much of the load, residential property makes up a larger share of the tax digest than it did then.
“We want the flashy things, but we need the HVAC unit. We don’t want to put a new exhibit at Thronateeska if we don’t have the building ready, so it’s not the glamorous things right now."
