Pedestrian injured by vehicle on North Jefferson Street
Pedestrian stepped in front of car at intersection

ALBANY — A pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing the street Monday morning in Albany, according to the Albany Police Department. The incident occurred around 8 a.m.
James Jefferson, 54, of Albany was attempting to cross the road at the intersection of West Society Avenue and North Jefferson Street when he stepped into the path of a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. According to reports, motorist Marilyn Westbrook, 62, of Albany, was headed east through the intersection.
“Jefferson was walking south on North Jefferson Street,” said APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks. “The vehicle proceeded across the intersection and Jefferson crossed into the path of the vehicle, which struck the pedestrian.”
Jefferson sustained a head injury and was transported to the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital emergency center for treatment.
“The incident remains under investigation,” Banks said.
