ALBANY — Nearly a dozen medical staff applicants, including five physicians, are looking to gain privileges at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, a recent credentials report said.
There was a short agenda for the Phoebe Professional Affairs Committee on Monday, but there were several physicians and affiliate staff applicants, also known as mid-level providers, listed on the report before the committee as seeking privileges at the hospital.
The physicians include three radiologists, one neurosurgeon and one critical care specialist. The radiologists are Drs. Calvin Ward Herring, Scott Kerns and Lisa Rubenstein, the neurosurgeon is Dr. David Herzig and Dr. Saurabh Sheel is the critical care specialist looking to come in.
Herzig is coming in on a locum tenens basis in that he is temporarily filling in for Dr. Kim Brown, the report said.
Affiliate staff applicants are brought in with a required physician sponsor. The six applicants are:
— Lindsay Craghead, for dentist Dr. Eddie Ronald Fields;
— Vickie Graham, for emergency medicine physician Dr. James Edward Black;
— Coretta Keith, also working with Black;
— Randy Lane, for orthopedic surgeon Dr. Henry Barnard;
— Shariah McKenzie, for OB/GYN physician Dr. Francis Kwarteng;
— Amber Tomlinson, for internist Dr. Frank Jones.
The report presented to the committee Monday went before the Phoebe’s Credentials and Bylaws Committee on Jan. 23 and to the Medical Executive Committee on Feb. 7. It was recommended for approval by the hospital’s full board.
The Professional Affairs Committee serves as liaison between the medical staff and Phoebe’s full board, handling matters relating to applications for medical staff membership. The committee is also charged with watching over and reporting to the board on matters of quality and safety within the hospital.
The hospital board regularly meets on the first Wednesday of the month.
