Phoebe Worth Medical Center Emergency Center changes phone number
Emergency center in Sylvester gets new phone number following scam
Staff Reports
SYLVESTER — Those who need to call the Phoebe Worth Medical Center Emergency Center are being told to dial a new number following a phone scam that flooded calls into the emergency center.
The new number for the emergency center in Sylvester is (229) 777-3889, so the community is being asked to discontinue using the previous number, (229) 777-3888.
The Phoebe Worth EC became the victim of a phone scam when the phone number was “spoofed” and scammers called people demanding payment for phony student loan debts and making it appear that the calls were coming from the Phoebe Worth EC.
“The nurses are being overwhelmed by dozens of calls a day from irate people who have received these scam calls. The victims are rightfully upset and are demanding not to be called again,” officials at Phoebe Putney Health System said. “Sylvester Police are investigating, but there is little they can do. There is also nothing the phone company can do to prevent this ‘spoofing.’
“Therefore, Phoebe has decided the best course of action to allow nurses to focus on their important work serving patients is to change the phone number.”
Phoebe Worth officials said they want to ensure the public that these calls have nothing to do with Phoebe, and they encouraged individuals who receive such calls not to respond to them.
