ALBANY — Officers with the Albany Police Department’s Investigations Bureau are asking for the public’s help in locating Jason Eric Yarn.

Yarn, 39, is wanted on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment in connection with a March 15 incident that occurred in the parking lot of the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store at 1501 N. Slappey Blvd., APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said. Yarn’s last known address is 1209 Eighth Ave., according to police.

According to an APD police report, officers responded to a disorderly conduct call at the O’Reilys Auto Parts store on north Slappey Boulevard. Police arrived to find Jason Yarn and De’Wayne Threadcraft having an altercation. Officers questioned both men to determine what happened.

Yarn advised officers, according to the APD report, that his son had returned home with a bloody nose and claimed that a black male in his early 20s, with a goatee and driving a small tan-colored vehicle had punched him in the face. After a brief search, Yarn and his son located the man suspected of punching Yarn’s son.

Yarn’s son identified De’Wayne Threadcraft, to his father and later to police, as the man who had punched him. Before police arrived, Yarn confronted Threadcraft about the incident and an altercation took place, said APD officials.

According to the police report, Yarn attempted to detain Threadcraft by making a citizen’s arrest. Threadcraft claims Yarn grabbed him by the neck and headbutted him. Yarn claims he did not touch Threadcraft other than to keep him from getting away.

Officers talked to witnesses, who confirmed the story, and also talked to Yarn’s son, who identified Threadcraft as the man who had punched him in the face. Threadcraft claims he did not punch Yarn’s son and had video footage showing him at home during the time of the attack on the boy.

Yarn was charged with disorderly conduct for the incident, according to APD police reports, and was released on citation.

Police are asking that anyone who has information on the incident or who knows the whereabouts of Yarn to call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS or to contact Detective Charlie Roberts in the APD Robbery/Homicide Unit at (229) 431-3288 or (229) 483-7642.

Crime Stoppers tips can be anonymous, and the persons giving the tips could be in line for a cash reward.
