Riverquarium plans Halloween “Zombie Run” along river
If ever anyone needed motivation to run along the river, sans the scenic views, calming rushing water and the beautiful flora, it would be zombies.
The Flint RiverQuarium is sponsoring the city’s first-ever Zombie River Run — a fun and terrifying 5k frolic along the Riverwalk complete with volunteer zombies trying to snatch “life flags” from the runners as they pass by. The run is set for 1 p.m. on October 27.
“It’s something new and different for Albany,” RiverQuarium spokesperson Wendy Bellacomo said. “We saw that it was something that was pretty popular in other cities and we thought it was great way to get people downtown and have some fun.”
The $25 fun-run entry fee will benefit the RiverQuarium and all participants will get free admittance into the downtown educational attraction, Bellacomo said. Prizes will be awarded to those who finish the run with their life flags still attached.
Those interested in running, should call the RiverQuarium at 229-639-2650 and give their information to Vicki Churchman, Bellacomo said.
The run will start on the Riverwalk trail behind the Albany Welcome Center on Front Street and proceed down the trail along the river.
It will make for a busy weekend for RiverQuarium staff who will also be hosting their annual tricks and treats event the night before at the RiverQuarium on Pine Avenue.
