ALBANY — Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church hosted a gingerbread festival Saturday to benefit the Champions For Children Easter Seals program.

Participants had a variety of fun-filled activities to chose from including fishing for candy canes, a jingle bell toss, and most importantly, building gingerbread houses.

“Today’s event is called ‘Get Ready To Crumble,’” event volunteer Teresa Heard said. “It is a gingerbread festival for families and it is to help support the Champions For Children program at Easter Seals of Southern Georgia. This program is specifically for families that are not getting any type of assistance. They are not medicaid eligible. These are families that are going to work everyday, paying their taxes, but need that extra help with regards to a child with a disability.”

According to Heard, around 75 children participated in the program and all were excited that Santa would be making an appearance.
