Savoy Bistro and Lounge to hold ‘soft’ weekend opening
New restaurant offers patrons a first look, full bar, smooth jazz music

ALBANY — The principle owner of the new Savoy Bistro and Lounge at 704 Radium Springs Road has decided to give curious would-be patrons who have been paying close attention to the ongoing work at the restaurant a “soft-opening” kick start this weekend.
Savoy’s owner, who is a distinguished member of Albany’s business community, said the bistro would open its full bar, offer an appetizer menu and feature the smooth jazz music of saxophonist Chris Godber tonight. On Saturday, the bar will be open, the appetizer menu available, and Albany-based G&S Experience will supply the music.
“We plan to offer our full menu starting next week, but we wanted to do a soft opening this weekend to showcase the restaurant and to provide an entertaining atmosphere to those in our community who have gone through such a tough time the last couple of weeks,” the owner, who has asked that his name not be used, said. “B.J. Fletcher is going to be preparing the food, so you know that will be good. But we want to be a place where people can bring a date.
“We’re going to bring ‘date night’ back to Albany. We’re going to have good food, a fully stocked bar and an atmosphere unlike any other place in the region.”
Fletcher, the Ward III Albany City Commissioner who owns BJ’s Country Buffet, said she’s looking forward to showing all of her culinary skills at Savoy Bistro and Lounge.
“I’m most associated with my buffet, but I’ll have an opportunity to surprise some people here, an opportunity to show all of the things I can do in a kitchen,” Fletcher said.
Savoy will open at 4 p.m. today and Saturday and will remain open until 2 a.m. Regular hours will be announced next week.
