ALBANY — A second man has been charged in the Oct. 13 homicide of Javis Walker, 31.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said Shanorris Taylor, 28, was picked up at his home around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Taylor was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, Banks said. He has been taken to the Dougherty County Jail.

Walker was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in an armed robbery at the Dollar General store at 1906 E. Oglethorpe Blvd. Albany police say Walker acted heroically to protect the cashier who was being held up.

Cohen Scott Mathews, 22, was arrested in Lee County on Wednesday morning and was brought to Albany, where APD homicide/robbery detectives questioned him. Banks said Wednesday night that Mathews had been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

In addition to murder and aggravated assault with a firearm, the Dougherty County Jail on Thursday listed charges against Mathews as including battery/family violence, first offense; criminal damage to property, second degree; criminal trespass; obstructing or hindering persons making emergency telephone call, and parole violation.

Lee County officials on Wednesday also charged Mathews’ girlfriend, 20-year-old Lisa Marie Grigg, with hindering apprehension of a criminal, and possession of marijuana and drug-related objects. She had been listed as a person of interest and had spoken with Albany police Tuesday.

Albany police were still searching Thursday for a second woman that they have listed as a person of interest in the case, Heather Nicole Jeffcoat, 32.
