ALBANY — An opportunity for special needs children and their peers to interact is coming to a downtown Albany attraction on Saturday.

The Sensational Saturday series put on by Beckhom Behavioral Consulting continues with an aquatic edition scheduled for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Flint RiverQuarium.

“We continue to do pop-up events at our local entertainment, recreation, or other businesses to promote inclusion of all families and children regardless of ability level in community activities,” Katrina Wilburn-Beckhom, director and founder of Beckhom Behavioral, said. “We are excited to have partnered with the Flint RiverQuarium for our scavenger hunt this coming Saturday.”

At the event, families can take part in the scavenger hunt, explore the RiverQuarium and take part in stimulating activity stations designed for children ranging from toddlers to early teens. The hunt is open to all families, regardless of whether someone in the family has special needs.

Beckhom Behavioral, which had been hosting similar events every third Saturday at another venue, eventually decided to host Sensational Saturdays at different attractions throughout the Albany area, including at Thronateeska Heritage Center earlier this year. The organization’s stated intention is to visit entertainment-based attractions in the city and add to what they are already doing.

Beckhom said prior to the Thronateeska event that taking Sensational Saturdays to different venues is part of an effort to expand on the outreach effort meant to offer inclusion to families who may not be able to find it elsewhere, and for attractions to take into consideration efforts to accommodate special-needs families.

Families will be charged $10 per person on Saturday. For more information, call (229) 439-9951 or email [email protected].
