From Staff Reports
ALBANY — Sherwood Christian Academy’s high school theater department is presenting “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and is running four shows on Thursday and into Saturday at the Albany State University West Campus theater.
Tickets are $16 for premium seating, $14 for general admission and $12 for students. The curtain lifts for Thursday’s opener and on Friday at 7 p.m. There are two shows set for Saturday, a matinee at 1:30 p.m. and the closing show at 7 p.m.
“’Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ is a great show for the whole family,” SCA Director Christine St. Jacques said. “The classic songs, entertaining dances, endearing characters, and touching story will delight the audience and give them a fun afternoon or evening out.
“We have a hardworking, extremely talented cast and have thoroughly enjoyed preparing to share this show with our community. Audiences will not be disappointed.”
“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” won the Academy Award for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture and was nominated for four additional awards, including Best Picture — which it lost to Elia Kazan’s “On the Waterfront.” In 2006, the American Film Institute named “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” as one of the best American musical films ever made.
In 2004, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
