Southwest Georgia town near top of ‘Worst Named Cities’ list

CLIMAX, Ga. A tiny Southwest Georgia town now has the designation of having one of the most unfortunate names in the nation, according to a recent survey.
Hardly scientific, the genealogy website Findmypast.com has ranked towns in the U.S. who have colorful names.
Climax comes in at the number two spot, nestled comfortably behind Toad Suck, Ark. and above Boring, Oregon and Maryland.
Calls for comment from Climax Mayor Charles Hadsock haven’t yet been returned.
According to the state guide, Climax got its name from its geographical position along the railroad.
“Climax is the highest point on the railroad between Savannah and the Chattahoochee River. After its founding in the 1880s, the town served as a rail junction and an agricultural community. It later incorporated in 1905,” the site states. “For many years Climax flourished, its businesses, churches, hotels, and services sustaining the community. With the coming of paved highways and the cutback of rail services, however, the town’s economic strength declined.”
