TIFTON, Ga. — A Tifton elementary school was placed on lock down after reports of gun fire in a nearby neighborhood drew a police response.
Superintendent Patrick Atwater tells WTIF in Tifton that the suspected gunfire came from outside of G.O. Bailey school in a surrounding neighborhood.
The Tifton Police Department, the Tift County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol sent units to the school and Atwater says that a good number of parents showed up to pull their children out of school.
The lockdown was lifted at 11 a.m., Atwater says.
