ALBANY — Tyrell Lawson, 28, has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Larry Bernard McCray, who was found gunned down on the 1300 block of Whispering Pines Road on Saturday.

The Albany Police Department said in a Thursday-morning news release that Lawson had turned himself in at the APD Law Enforcement Center and was on his way to Dougherty County Jail.

The fatal shooting of McCray was one of two shooting deaths reported in Albany that day.

A murder warrant was taken out against Kolean Omar Lawson, 43, following the death of McCray just before 11 a.m. Saturday. Police initially said Kolean Lawson could have been with Lacoya Lee, 28, and Tyrell Lawson, 28, and they were thought to have made their way south into Florida.

Kolean Lawson surrendered to the Miami Police Department on Sunday. Investigators with APD questioned Lee and Tashira Cross and did not issue warrants against them, while Tyrell Lawson, Kolean Lawson’s nephew, remained on the run.

Investigators issued a felony murder, party to a crime, warrant against Tyrell Lawson, who was seen in St. Augustine, Fla., earlier this week. Additional warrants have also been taken out against Kolean Lawson for aggravated assault, first-degree cruelty to children and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
