From Staff Reports
TIFTON — Persons interested in beautiful plants that will grow well in your Southern garden are encouraged to make plans to attend the South Georgia Native Plant & Wildflower Symposium in Tifton on March 27.
The symposium, cosponsored by Garden Club of Georgia Inc., Camellia District and University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, has won several awards and grants over the past 19 years.
At this year’s event, visitors will learn about the many benefits of using native plants in the landscape, plants preferred by pollinators and birds, and wildflowers that survive and flourish on Southeastern roadsides. Registration opens at 9 a.m., and the conference begins at 9:50 a.m. at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, 1392 Whiddon Mill Road in Tifton.
Vendors will have rare and hard-to-find native plants available for purchase. The plant sale opens at 9 a.m. In the atrium of the museum, formerly known as Agrirama, botanical artist Linda Fraser will exhibit and sell detailed prints.
The symposium features regionally known speakers: Jeff Norcini, a research scientist and consultant with Florida DOT; Kym Stephens, a forester and right-of-way coordinator with Georgia Power/Southern Company, and Lillie Kline, ecologist and educator with Audubon Atlanta.
