ALBANY — The simple act of running a stop sign led to a collision Sunday morning that left one vehicle overturned, careening down Slappey Boulevard on its roof, according to reports from the Albany Fire Department and the Albany Police Department.
An APD report indicates that Christian Bryan Reeves, of Leesburg, “was driving east on Seventh Avenue and entering onto North Slappey Boulevard, failed to stop at the stop sign.”
After failing to stop, Reeves, driving a 2018 Nissan Altima, collided with Deborah Key, who was driving a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo.
According to report, the Rodeo, when struck, overturned and slid into the guardrail at Mac George Motorcars, impacting one of the vehicles on the lot. Key, along with two passengers in her vehicle, were helped out of the upside down SUV by fire department personnel before being transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment by Dougherty EMS.
AFD Battalion Chief Wesley Wells was traveling along the 1500 block of North Slappey Boulevard when the accident occurred directly in front of him.
“I didn’t witness the entire accident,” Wells said. “By the time I looked up, the accident was in progress. The impacted vehicle went around sideways, spun around and then rolled over onto its roof before coming to a rest. There were two adults and a child in the vehicle that we assisted out, but the extent of their injuries I do not know.”
Reeves was charged with failure to obey an official traffic-control device, according to the APD report.
