National Guard to host Black History Month ceremony

MARIETTA — The Georgia National Guard will hold a ceremony celebrating Black History Month at the Clay National Guard Center here Thursday at 11 a.m.
The event will be streamed live on Facebook @georgiaguard.
According to a news release, Gen. Thomas Carden, the adjutant general of the Georgia National Guard; Maj. Gen. Thomas Grabowski, commander of the Georgia Air National Guard, and Brig. Gen. Dwayne Wilson, commanding general of the Georgia Army National Guard, are scheduled to attend. Col. Jean Paul Laurenceau, commander of the Marietta-based, 201st Regional Support Group will be the guest speaker.
Since the beginning of the National Guard’s history, black Americans fought for the nation, even when they were denied rights, opportunities, and even basic humanity in the eyes of the law. For the month of February, the Guard will celebrate and honor the numerous contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have shaped the nation and our armed forces.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the Albany metro area was approximately $3.45 this week, making Albany the second-least expensive metro market in Georgia behind Dalton at $3.41 and slightly ahead of Brunswick at $3.48.
