ALBANY — A 4:30 p.m. shooting Thursday at Smith’s Super Value store during a robbery brought police officers to the 1000 block of South Harding Avenue, Albany Police Department spokesman Steve Butler said.

There were no injuries in connection with the robbery, and Butler said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

Officers investigated the crime scene and canvassed the area for suspects and clues, Butler said. The K-9 unit was expected to be called in to track the suspects.

“He had a small silver gun,” said Janie Traylor, the store’s owner since 1958. “A girl was trying to pay me with a five dollar bill, and he took that, too.”

In 52 years Traylor said she has had about five thefts at the store. The majority of the thefts have been break-ins, she said.

“One boy reached over and stole the money right from my drawer,” Traylor said. “They caught him. I hope they catch this one, too.”

Police have one person in custody, and the case remained under investigation Thursday night, Butler said.
