Police investigating Albany shooting

ALBANY — Two victims were hospitalized after a shooting in south Albany early Sunday, officials with the Albany Police Department said.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said units responded to the 1000 block of West Tift Ave., after a shooting was reported to have taken place at the intersection of West Oglethorpe Boulevard and South Harding Street at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. When police arrived, they learned the victims, identified as Phildrick Davis, 27, and Ezekeil James, 24, had been transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in a pickup truck.

Banks said officers responded to the hospital, where Davis and James were seeking treatment. They spoke with one of the victims, who told police they were traveling west on the 800 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard in a 2000 Honda Accord when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside them and began firing shots at them, she said.

A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that Davis was in fair condition, and that James had since been discharged.

No other injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation, Banks said.
