PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Tip-in helps Pelham boys win in overtime

FITZGERALD — In one of the better games of the basketball season, Pelham needed overtime to beat Fitzgerald 51-49 Saturday night in a key Region 1-AA game on the road.

For a young Pelham squad, it was a game they needed.

Delvin Coleman, who finished with just four points, tipped in the winning basket at the overtime buzzer to send the Hornets to a wild victory.

Clarence Almond led the way for Pelham with 17 points, while Joshua Russell added nine and Dashana Lewis tossed in eight.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 73, AMERICUS-SUMTER 66: Herald Super 6er Tyree Crump finished with 25 points, 22 of his points coming in the second half, as visiting Bainbridge upended Americus-Sumter.

Malik Middleton added 16 points, while Trevon Shaw and Myles Thomas scored 12 apiece as Bainbridge improved to 11-2 on the season.

TERRELL ACADEMY BOYS 74, CRISP ACADEMY 36: Conor Walsh led the Eagles with 18 points, while Raleigh Carlson chipped in 14 to lead Terrell Academy past Crisp Academy.

Carlson was honored for scoring his career 1,000th point.

Bobby Ray Mitchell led Crisp with 10 points.

RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS 62, TERRELL COUNTY 40: Gary McCrae exploded for 24 points as the Red Devils hammered Terrell County in a key Region 1-A game. Nigel Gibson and Cody Brown finished with 10 points each to lead Randolph-Clay.

Travelle Stephens led the Greenwaves with 10 points.

BAINBRIDGE GIRLS 55, AMERICUS-SUMTER 51: Bainbridge scored a key victory over Americus-Sumter, using 19 points from Alex Carter and 16 from Patra Parris to top the Lady Panthers. Americus-Sumter’s Atyana Gaulden led all scorers, finishing with a game-high 22 points despite drawing double coverage for most of the game.

PELHAM GIRLS 71, FITZGERALD 54: The Pelham Lady Hornets jumped back into Region 1-AA play Saturday night and pounded Fitzgerald on the road.

The Lady Hornets were led by Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman’s 23 points. Quadranique Franklin added 15 points, while Timbreanna Hudson and Mahogany Randall finished with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Pelham, who has lost just once this season, will travel to Valdosta on Tuesday to play Lowndes in a nonregion game.

RANDOLPH-CLAY GIRLS 59, TERRELL COUNTY 47: Randolph-Clay got back on the winning side with a key Region 1-A victory over Terrell County. Herald Super 6er Kobi Thornton led the way with 23 points, while Kaderia Parham added 12 points. Alecia Mathis and Shaayliah Lewis finished with 10 points apiece.

Terrell County was led by Jamiya McDaniel’s 14 points.

TERRELL ACADEMY GIRLS 44, CRISP ACADEMY 29: Terrell Academy sharpened up for its GISA Region 3-AAA slate that begins this week with a victory over defending Class A state champion Crisp Academy in Dawson.

The Lady Eagles were led by Alana McCook’s 16 points.

McCook was honored during the game for scoring 1,000 points during her high school career.

LATE FRIDAY

EARLY COUNTY BOYS 95, BERRIEN 55: Early County returned to action from its holiday break and pounded Berrien in a Region 1-AA game. The Bobcats were led by Qubalah Hall’s 21 points. Malik Thornton added 15, Dante Belcher added 14 and Ricky Smith finished with 10 points for Early County.

RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS 67, EUFAULA 56: Keyshawn Baker and Alton Powell scored 13 points each to lead Randolph-Clay to a victory over Eufaula. Qualin Jones added 11 points, while Gary McCrae and Cody Brown finished with 10 points apiece.

EUFAULA GIRLS 73, RANDOLPH-CLAY 43: Randolph-Clay fell short against Eufaula. Kaderia Perham led the way with 16 points, while Kobi Thornton added 14 in the loss.
