Former President Jimmy Carter is not scheduled to teach Sunday School this Sunday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains. His next scheduled appearance is Oct. 18. When Carter is teaching, the lesson begins at 10 a.m., but the sanctuary doors open at 8:30 a.m. An orientation session for visitors begins at 9 a.m.

EVENTS

The Rev. Chad Ellis has been appointed senior pastor of Gillionville Baptist Church. He will be preaching on Sunday mornings and evenings during October and November 1 and will assume all pastoral responsibilities in mid-November.

Ellis and his wife, Sheri, have two children, Maddie and Timothy. He has a bachelor of science degree, majoring in communication disorders, from Auburn University. He earned a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 2002. His hobbies include running and hiking.

Ellis previously was minister of youth and education at First Baptist Church of Forest Park. Most recently, he served through the Georgia Baptist Convention as the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) Campus Minister for Clayton State University in Morrow and Georgia Perimeter College—Newton Campus.

Worship times on Sundays are 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Gillionville Baptist Church is located in Albany at 4614 Gillionville Road.

Greater Pines Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its Family and Friends Day on Oct. 18 beginning at 11:15 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Roland Jenkins, pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church in the Acree community, will deliver the message. The Rev. James C. Bush is church pastor.

The Nurses’ Aide Ministry at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1501 Newton Road, will sponsor a Good Choice/Bad Choice workshop at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Attending will be The Mason Family and representatives from Liberty House and Albany Drug Task Force.

Greater Fellowship Christian Ministries will host its annual Family and Friends Day at 10 a.m. Sunday. The new location is 3352 Palmyra Road. Thomas Rivers, church pastor, will bring the message Sunday.

Baconton United Methodist Church will host a gospel sing at 7 p.m. today featuring the Plath Family bluegrass band. A love offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served and the program is open to the public.

Second Shiloh Baptist Church of Bronwood will celebrate its 164th anniversary at 11 a.m. on Oct. 25 with a message from the Rev. Albert L. Bob III.

Morningside United Methodist Church, 121 S. Mock Road, will celebrate its 63rd homecoming at 11 a.m. on Oct. 18. The Rev. Paul Best will bring the morning message. A covered dish dinner will follow in the social hall.

Red Roots will be in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church, 1109 Liberty Expressway S.E. Special guest will be Mandy Harrell. Admission is $10 at the door and a support offering will be received.

Former members of the gospel Echoes Choir of Mount Calvary Baptist Church will celebrate a choir reunion today and Saturday. The group was started by Brenda Jones-Cameron in 1969. A highlight of the group’s experience was performing with Shirley Ceasar at Monroe High School in 1977. Former members will participate in a concert at 5 p.m. Saturday at Eureka Baptist Church, 1201 Lily Pond Road.
