RUBY BRITT: Morals have no color
Ruby Britt
It hit me today just how far we have wandered from God’s purpose for us. While Satan dances his happy dance the rest of us should be on our knees.
In an email sent to me was a picture of a young black man carrying a handwritten sign which read: “No mother should have to fear for her son’s life every time he robs a store.”
Really?
That sign spoke volumes to me. What kind of mother teaches that taking something without permission and by force is okay? That mother should be teaching God’s commandments to her children, that hard work and respect for others and their property is honorable; that there is no shame in asking for help when help is needed, but that forcibly taking what is not yours just because you can is shameful.
In the aftermath of the Ferguson, Mo., grand jury decision to not convict a white policeman for shooting a black man who reached into his police car and struggled with him for his gun, 18 people were injured, and 12 buildings and two police cars burned. Some of the owners of those businesses were the dead man’s neighbors with various shades of skin color.
Those business owners probably sacrificed and worked hard to establish their business, only to have them destroyed by a segment of the population that has no sense of personal responsibility or respect for anything that matters. And it is adults who have more and know better that incite the riots and perpetuate the problem.
