School system to host stakeholders meeting
Terry Lewis
EDISON, Ga. — The Calhoun County School System will hold a stakeholder’s meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday for community members who want to participate in the system’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools reaccreditation process.
The meeting will take place in the Professional Learning Center, formerly known as the Health Occupations Building, at the middle/high school campus in Edison.
Parents of students in the school system and community members are encouraged to attend to learn more about the process as well as to provide input.
Every five years, districts must go through a quality assurance review to ensure they are meeting standards decided on by accrediting body. These visits are to ensure the quality of the schools that receive the SACS accreditation status.
Districts first perform a self-study to examine how it is meeting standards and then a team, including both in-state and out-of-state members perform a quality assurance review to confirm the district’s findings.
The system is currently in the middle of performing the self-study and is holding this stakeholders’ meeting to invite participation from the community members about the process. The SACS review team will visit CCSS in January.
The self-study is expected to last four months. Leaders from the central office and all the schools in the district are helping perform the study.
For any questions, contact district SACS chairperson Mary Alice Hilton at 849-2765.
Additionally, each school has a contact person. Sian Lott is at the elementary school, (229) 725-4985, and Lee Ann Patterson is at the middle/high school, (229) 835-2473.
