ALBANY — The Cancer Coalition of South Georgia’s fundraising gala, Night for Hope, raised more than $33,000 to fight cancer, officials with the coalition reports.
“Every dollar donated to the Cancer Coalition helps to support our work right here,” said Coalition CEO Diane Fletcher.
The Cancer Coalition, officials say, provides cancer related services, education, research and outreach exclusively for south Georgia communities.
The Feb. 14 event, held at the Hilton Garden Inn, featured a plated dinner accompanied by music from Dr. Jose Tongol’s band, JT’s Yoyos – Musicians Playing for a Cause, followed by dancing to The Hollywood Band. The auction items ranged from gift cards provided by businesses to a dinner party provided and hosted by Paula Deen. Guests had the opportunity to learn about the Cancer Coalition’s mission and its work in the community.
Nearly 200 guests were in attendance. The honoree was media personality and cancer survivor Ruthie Garner.
Fletcher stated her gratitude for corporate partners Keystone Foods/Equity Group, MillerCoors and Southeastern Federal Credit Union, to presenting sponsor, the Family of Robin Fletcher Elmore, and to additional sponsors Adams Exterminators, Albany Area Primary Health Care, Albany CEO, Bush Animal Clinic, Duren Paint & Body and Pro1 Collision, JR James Brokerage, LRA Constructors, McLendon Acres, Outsource Logistics, Paul Davis Emergency Services, Phoebe Cancer Center physicians, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Regions Bank and WALB-TV. She also expressed appreciation to Night for Hope Committee members Caitlin Bailey, Sharon Gross, Catina Hayes, Jade Kavanaugh, Patrick O’Flynn, Lidia Olds, Debbie Reynolds and Vicky Stephens.
Planning will begin this summer for the 2016 event. Those interested in sponsorships, volunteering or learning more are encouraged to contact Jennifer Johnston at (229) 312-1700 or [email protected].
