ALBANY —Albany police responded to two unrelated shootings Saturday, one of them fatal.
Police say that Jessica Bryant, 28, a mother of two, was shot to death at 403 S. Cleveland St. shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.
No arrests had been made in the shooting death Saturday evening. Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said Bryant’s slaying was the fifth homicide case in Albany this year.
In an unrelated shooting, after responding at 2:29 a.m. to a report of multiple gunshots in the 800 block of Cedar Avenue, police say that an unknown man had jumped into an unknown type of car and left that area for the hospital.
When APD officers arrived at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, they found a man identified as Corey Payton who had a gunshot wound to his leg. Payton, however, refused to speak with police, officials say.
