Conference for caregivers set April 9

ALBANY — The Alzheimer’s Outreach Center and SOWEGA Council on Aging are hosting the Fearless Caregiver Conference at the Kay H. Hind Senior Life Enrichment Center on April 9 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The event is open to family and professional caregivers. Registration is required and is $25 per person. Guest speaker for the conference is Gary Barg, Editor in Chief of “Today’s Caregiver” magazine and author of “The Fearless Caregiver” and “Caregiving Ties that Bind”.

Caregivers are responsible for the well-being of their loved ones who need care. They are also commonly referred to as the “Sandwich Generation” due to the fact that they find themselves sandwiched between responsibilities to parents, children, grandchildren and spouses. Recently the recognition of multi-generational caregiving has been extended to include the phrase “Club Sandwich Generation” referring to the fact that caregiving can include members of more than three generations.

Farm Credit agency distributing proceeds to member-owners

BAINBRIDGE — Southwest Georgia Farm Credit, a customer-owned financial institution, is making a distribution from its 2014 earnings of $4.5 million. In addition, the institution indicated that it has retired the 2006 allocated equity totaling $3.8 million. Together, this is an infusion of more than $8.3 million into the Southwest Georgia economy.

“As a cooperative lender, it’s important that we create value for our member-owners, and distributing our profits is one way we do that,” said Richard S. Monson, president, Southwest Georgia Farm Credit.

Beginning this year, borrowers will note that their patronage will be paid entirely in cash. “This means customers get 100% of their share of our profits in their pockets when they earn it,” Monson said. “We will no longer retain a portion to pay in subsequent years.”
