ALBANY — Police are investigating an early morning shooting on West Society Avenue Wednesday, where a 16-year-old resident was injured by gunfire, and shots fired at a motorists on South Slappey Boulevard Tuesday evening.

According to Albany Police spokeswoman Phyllis Banks, Darryl Mingo, 16, and some acquaintances were sitting on the front porch of a residence at 683 W. Society Ave. around 1:20 a.m. when two older model cars, one white and the other red, traveled in front of the residence.

Witnesses told police the cars passed twice in front of the home as their occupants fired guns into the air. On the third pass the occupants began shooting in the direction of the porch and Mingo was struck once in his upper left thigh, Banks said.

Mingo was transported by Dougherty County EMS to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where officials say he was later released. No arrests have been made so far in the case, Banks said.

Meantime, a woman’s car was apparently struck by bullets while traveling in south Albany Tuesday, police officials say.

Shan’niya Parks told Albany police investigators that she and Keishambreyia Douglas had been traveling on South Slappey Boulevard shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday. While stopped at the intersection of West Oakridge Drive, a silver Chevrolet Impala with two male occupants pulled alongside her car.

Parks told police that the two males were trying to look inside her car to see who was inside, but that the dark window tinting obscured their view. According to the account, Parks rolled her window down to allow the occupants of the other car to see her, then drove away, leaving the Impala behind.

Parks and Douglas then heard gunshots and what they believed to be something striking their vehicle, Parks stated, so Parks pulled into a Homerun Food store at 1002 W. Oakridge Drive and the Impala left the area.

Police officials say that a later examination showed possible bullet holes in the rear passenger window, the right rear fender and in the right brake light.

A police spokeswoman said investigation of the case will continue.
