1. Darrel Ealum buys blighted Mimosa Trailer Park for $1 million
ALBANY — One of Albany’s most blighted neighborhoods may have gotten a new lease on life earlier this month when Darrel Ealum closed on the purchase of the controversial Mimosa Trailer Park on Clark Avenue for a reported $1 million. During an interview last week Ealum vowed to pour in an additional $500,000 to clean up the neighborhood.
2. Albany’s interim utilities manager questions leaders’ push against plans
ALBANY — Tom Berry, who’s made it clear since he came to Albany as interim Water, Gas & Light Commission general manager in September of 2013 that there’s little room for personal attachments in his business, offers a sheepish grin when he’s asked the question.
3. Carol Hollomon, mother of Megan’s House namesake, dies at 65
ALBANY — Carol Hay Hollomon, an Albany resident whose daughter was the inspiration for Megan’s House — a respite facility for special needs children — died last week. She was 65.

5. Planning Commission sends Sherwood Christian request to county
ALBANY — Pending final approval by the Dougherty County Commission, work will begin this summer on an addition to Sherwood Christian Academy’s upper campus that will locate the Sherwood Baptist Church-affiliated school’s K-12 programs at one central location.
6. Three sentenced for tax fraud in Albany
ALBANY — Donalene Mosely of Albany, Kimberly Banks of Cordele and Arneshia Austin of Atlanta each were sentenced to time in federal prison Thursday for crimes relating to filing fraudulent income tax returns using stolen identities, a U.S. Department of Justice media release states.

9. Woman, 19, injured Friday night in shooting at Albany party
ALBANY — Officers responded to call Friday night from a party where a 19-year-old woman was shot in the leg, Albany police officials said.
10. Johnson takes aim at Dougherty School Board seat
ALBANY — Darton State College Assistant Professor of Economics Aaron Johnson has no doubt he is the most qualified candidate for the Dougherty County School Board’s District 4 seat, and can rattle off those qualifications when asked.
