Thomas County Central hammers Albany

ALBANY — The Albany High Indians couldn’t break into the win column Friday night at Hugh Mills, falling 48-14 to Thomas County Central in another mistake-filled performance.
Albany dropped 0-7 and 0-2 in Region 1-AAAA ‘A’ subregion play on what has become a very tough season. Thomas County Central improved to 4-2 overall, 2-0 in subregion play.
The tone of the night was set from the first play when Indian quarterback Ty’Quiavious Terrell threw an interception, setting TCC up at the Albany 30-yard line. On the very next snap, Yellow Jackets running back Earnest McCormick rumbled through arm tackles for the first score of the evening with 11:45 still to play in the first quarter.
The teams then swapped possessions before TCC took over on their own 28. From there, Nick Patterson ran off tackle and sprinted 72 yards for another score with 6:59 to play in the first quarter.
Then quarterback Kelias Williams scored on a 6 yard run with 11:22 to play in the second. The only Hornet miscue was one missed PAT by Conley Wilhelm which sailed wide leaving the score at 20-0.
TCC used a bevy of backs including Tyrice Cloud who would score twice in the second quarter on runs of 5 and 30 yards. Then wideout Jamie Palmer hauled in three passes for 40 yards to set up another 10 yard touchdown run by Williams for a 41-0 lead.
The lone Indian score of the first half came after TCC was up by 41. Keiron Broussard returned the ensuing kickoff back to the Jackets 30. Then Terrell found receiver Cameron Peterson in end zone with 18 seconds to play in the first half. The two-point conversion failed and Albany trailed 41-6 at the break.
Albany had bright spots like an 11-play, 60-yard drive that eventually stalled due to center exchanges and bobbled handoffs. Defensively, linebacker Brandon Palmer had several tackles and recovered one fumble, while defensive end Timothy Allen played tough on the edge.
The second half was played with a running clock. Midway through the third quarter, Terrell was knocked out of action for the Indians and Peterson moved over from receiver to take the snaps and led a long 9-play, 60-yard march for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter as he capped the drive with a one yard dive.
Then Peterson found Brousard in the end zone for the two point conversion to make it 41-14.
Quintavius Cooksey then returned the ensuing kickoff for a TCC score and the point after made it 48-14 with 11:34 to play.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Albany as they face Monroe at Hugh Mills Stadium Thursday night.
