ALBANY — Officers of the Albany Police Department responded to at least two shootings Thursday in which the victims were rushed for medical treatment.
The first attack occurred on the 1100 block of University Street shortly after 1 p.m., police officials say. A 21-year-old man told officers he was standing outside when he noticed a yellow Ford car with its lights off parked nearby, and after that heard two gunshots and then a third shot as the vehicle drove away.
A police spokeswoman said the victim was shot once in the upper calf region of each leg. No information is yet available on the victim’s treatment or condition.
Around 30 minutes following the University Street shooting, a 31-year-old man was shot in the chest as he and two other men walked south on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive near Wadkins Avenue, police officials say.
The men told police that an unknown person or persons drove past the victims and fired weapons at them. No other injuries were reported, but Banks said the incidents continue to be investigated.
