KATHIE ROWLAND: Albany Humane Society kept storm evacuee animals safe
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Forty-one Camden County animals found refuge from Irma in Albany
By Kathie Rowland
The Humane Society of Camden County would like to thank Albany Humane Society for providing a safe shelter for many of our animals during Hurricane Irma’s visit on Sept. 11. We have had a reciprocal arrangement with Albany Humane for several years, and we decided to evacuate many of our animals to Albany before the storm hit.
Little did we know that Irma would decide to change her mind and trend toward a western track. Although our shelter survived with minimal problems, our community nevertheless sustained significant damage.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to your shelter manager, Reva; your director, Jonathan, and the staff at Albany Humane. They accepted 41 of our dogs and cats and helped with their transport to Albany. Nine of our pets were adopted, and the other 32 were returned to us last week.
Everyone did their part in keeping our animals safe. We are fortunate to have non-profits in different areas work together in times of crisis.
