Dear Editor:

As we approach each election cycle in Albany and Dougherty County, there is always the concern that some well-qualified individuals may not qualify and run for election. Fortunately, that is not the case with the Dougherty County School Board, District 1.

Dr. Carolyn Hand has qualified as a candidate for the District 1 position on the Dougherty County Board of Education. Dr. Hand retired from the school system after many years of dedicated service as an effective classroom teacher, a successful building-level administrator and an excellent Director of Human Resources.

In 1985, an all-star group of musicians recorded a video to raise funds to help feed the starving people in Sub-Saharan Africa. The song they recorded was “We Are the World,” and the opening line of the song was, “There comes a time when you heed a certain call.”

I am very thankful that Dr. Hand is heeding the call to offer another measure of service to her school system and to the community. She has my full support, and I know she will do an excellent job if she is elected. Thank you.
